Entries For Royal Easter Show Art Awards

Calling all artists! You have until 27 February to get your entries in for this year’s Royal Easter Show Art Competition.

With a total prize pool of over $40,000, New Zealand’s largest art competition and show, the Royal Easter Show Art Competition, is open to artists of all ages, amateur and professional.

There are painting and printmaking, photography, ceramics and pottery, glass and woodcraft sections, with new categories for youth aged 10-18 in both painting and ceramics.

The theme for this year’s open painting class is ‘our land’, while themes for photography include ‘bugs and birds’, ‘at the seaside’ and ‘from the café’.

All entries will be on display for the duration of the Royal Easter Show, on from 9-13 April at the ASB Showgrounds. All works in the Art competition will be for sale (wording)

Royal Easter Show Coordinator Gaylene Ashton said organisers expect up to 2,000 entries based on previous years, making it New Zealand’s largest art competition and show. Hundreds of artworks are sold each year.

“There’s over $40,000 in prize money up for grabs and a wide range of categories open to artists of all levels of experience and expertise. With the largest viewing audience of any art show in the country, the show provides artists with an excellent opportunity to display and sell their work.”

Art lovers and anyone looking to purchase a piece of art should also make their way to the display in the Art Pavilion, on for the duration of the Royal Easter Show.

A demonstration area will feature painting and wood turning demonstrations and children can paint ceramics and have their faces painted.

For more information or an entry form and schedule go to www.royaleastershow.co.nz or contact Gaylene Ashton on (09) 623 7697 or Gaylene@asbshowgrounds.co.nz

Entries must be received by 5pm Friday 27 February 2009.
