League fans in for pre-season spectacle

League fans in for pre-season spectacle

16 February 2009

Rugby league fans can expect a hotly contested pre-season match between the Vodafone Warriors and the Toyota North Queensland Cowboys on 22 February at North Harbour Stadium.

North Shore City's Manager of Events, City Promotions and Tourism, Jennah Wootten, says a large crowd is expected, and to help make it an affordable family excursion, free tickets were available for children with adults tickets priced at just $15.

Ms Wootten said the match was a popular fixture on the city's annual events calendar with fans enjoying the electric atmosphere at North Harbour Stadium.

North Shore will be hosting the Cowboys from 18 February where they will be staying at the Millennium Institute of Sport and training at North Harbour Stadium.

Cowboys Head Coach, Neil Henry, says the pre-season match was an important one for his team with all 25 players crossing the Tasman.

"This trial is an important part of our preparation for the start of the NRL season. We have a number of players vying for starting positions in the team," he said.

As an added bonus, The Rugby League World Cup will also be on site. Fans will be able to view the cup and have photos alongside it.

A curtain-raiser featuring The Vodafone Junior Warriors and The Auckland Vulcans will begin at 2:15pm with the main game kicking off at 4pm.
