Northland’s own
tall ship the R. Tucker Thompson is launching a new range of
youth sailing adventures for the up coming winter.
To supplement the existing 7-day sail training voyages, and short 2 hour sailing trop, the sail training trust is now offering a number of three-day, two night adventures as well as a single day experience.
“We are introducing these because of demand” said Rachel Kennedy, Sales & Operations Manager. “We have received a number of enquiries from schools for a full day sail with an educational component. Our overnight voyages are limited to just 10 places, whereas often teachers are looking for a full class activity”. This winter we will therefore be offering a full day sail with a choice of two lesson plans to be carried out in the morning and afternoon. In addition to this, we’ll intend to offer a number of three-day two night adventures based in the Bay. Again, this is based on feedback where some families have told us they can’t afford the time for the 7-day trip as there are so many extra curriculum activities now available that the kids are too busy.”
The 7-day sail training voyages will still be run between May and October, but depending on demand, some of them may be replaced by two shorter trips.
“We’d like to encourage people to book early for the 7-day Sail Training Voyages to avoid disappointment; the first trips are in May which isn’t far away”.
