Her Party A Huge Success
Last night around 200 guests gathered at the Coutts Mercedes Showroom in Newmarket, Auckland to celebrate 100 issues of Her Magazine.
The outrageously funny and audience-capturing Jackie Clarke was an excellent MC and gave a dazzling rendition of Kiri Te Kanawa’s Po Kare Kare Ana (during a bug storm) which had the crowd in hysterics.
Her tongue-in-cheek introduction of the evening’s key note speaker, Prime Minister John Key, was reciprocated by a very entertaining speech by the Minister.
Comedian Michelle A’Court carried on the merriment of the night with her stand-up act.
Annah Stretton finished off the evening’s speeches with a moving and heartfelt address of thanks to those in attendance as well as all the women in business that are showcased monthly in Her Magazine.
“We openly
celebrate and pedestal our sporting heroes and we swamp our
music and acting personalities and we constantly showcase
those who are nothing other than celebrities for
celebrities’ sake,” she said.
“And ironically, it
is the businesswomen that have contributed significantly to
the growth of this country. We have well and truly mastered
that art of balance which has enabling us to bring up a
family instilling strong values, while crating life
partnerships that have endured the distance - skills that
many in our country have long since forgotten. So, just as
these women have become a large part of our business
backbone, they are also contributing equally to the social
fabric of New Zealand which at the moment - if you listened
to the media - would appear seriously under
threat.
Businesswomen take on the multi roles of wife,
mother, friend, employer, mentor, benefactor, and leader;
doing them all in our limited time frames and with never
ending stamina and determination. We are living proof that
the busiest people are always the most efficient.”
In the entrance to the showroom hung banners of past Her Magazine cover girls and these same women were gifted dresses with their covers printed on them which many wore with pride throughout the night.
Cover girls included Annette Presley, Debbie Harwood, Laura Humphreys, Trish Budd, Mary Lambie, Angela Todd, Colyn Devereux-Kay, Suzanne Paul, Lisa Er, Carol Lee Andersen, Denise McBeth, Jane Hunter and Annah Stretton.
