Ellerslie Theatrical Society presents:

Where There’s a Will…

by Ian Hornby

directed by Chrissy Hodkinson

19 – 28 March 2009

SYNOPSIS

Derek and Linda’s marriage is on the rocks.  Not surprising really - given that Derek is having an affair with Linda’s younger sister, Carol, while Linda, unbeknownst to Derek, is having an affair with his younger brother, Colin! Wills and generous life insurance policies bring temptations but hapless visitors, and bungled murder attempts, see the body count growing!

A black comedy set in present day England.

Note:  Contains themes that may offend some people.

QUOTE

“What are they! I always knew you were stupid, Derek, but surely you recognise women’s knickers when you see them… Lurid, aren’t they?”

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR – Chrissy Hodkinson

This is the fourth production Chrissy has directed for Stables - three One Act plays: Ritual for Dolls, Soldier’s Song and The Zoo Story; and the terrific farce: Not Now Darling which was huge fun. During 2007 and 2008 it has been Chrissy’s very great privilege to act as the ETS representative in the Auckland Community Theatre Trust Awards (ACTT) Adjudication process – a role which she has enjoyed enormously. It was a fantastic opportunity for her to see many wonderful shows and be amazed by the depth of talent that exists within large parts of the Auckland theatre community. The Awards dinner each year is a great celebration of that talent and recognition of the huge commitment made by so many casts and crews and all involved are to be congratulated. ACTT provides very strong evidence that the heart and health of Auckland community theatre is strong and vital.

Chrissy first came across Where There’s A Will in 2007 through email contact with the playwright, Ian Hornby, a founding member of New Theatre Publications (NTP) in the UK. NTP is a Playwrights’ Co-operative whose aims are to cut out the middle-men and profit-makers from the world of Theatre Publishing and give individual playwrights the opportunity to take greater control and responsibility in the marketing of their work. Their website contains a great catalogue of plays and pdf scripts are happily sent via email which allows the enquirer to screen lots of plays in search for “the one”.

Where There’s a Will… appealed to Chrissy’s bizarre sense of humour and she could see that it would provide as much fun for the cast and crew as, she hopes, for the audience!
