Big changes in 2009 for Cox Motorsport.

Big changes in 2009 for Cox Motorsport.

In their quest for success, the Cox Motorsport team have made some big changes for their 2009 New Zealand Rally Championship campaign.

17 year old driver Sloan Cox will this year campaign a freshly built, state of the art, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X. The car is a big step up from the team’s Evo VIII the team campaigned last year and will be a learning curve.

As well as learning the new car, Cox will also be kept busy adapting to driving on the left hand side of the car. Moving to a left hand drive car is a crucial step for Sloan to move forward in international rallying as there are no right hand drive factory rally cars in the world.

Also changing is the person pointing Sloan in the right direction.

Throughout his career to date, sister Tarryn has called the pace notes, however this year Tarryn has the exciting opportunity to launch her international career by contesting the Asia Pacific Rally Championship with Emma Gilmour. The pair will be team mates to three times defending champion Cody Crocker as part of the Singapore based Motor Image Racing team.

They will also contest the NZRC, meaning the siblings will go from team mates to rivals. Joining Sloan for the 2009 season will be Cantabrian David Calder. The team are looking forward to the experience David will bring to the role. The pair will sit together for the first time at the Whariti Peak Hillclimb on March 6-7.

The first rally for the Cox’s will be round one of the New Zealand Rally Championship, the Rally Hawkes Bay on April 4-5.
