Cinderella feet at Trentham on Saturday

Girls of all ages attending Girls’ Day at Trentham Racecourse on Saturday 14 March will need to put their best foot forward in Cinderella style. Their feet and race-day footwear will be photographed as they enter the course.

In a fashionable first the big screen which normally features equine feet thundering down the track will on Saturday, before Race 5, show at speed the feet of female punters.

More accustomed to starting races, race starter Garry Phillips will stop the video and the foot featuring on the screen at that moment will walk away in a pair of high fashion shoes from Wellington store, Mi Piaci.

Wellington Racing Club chief executive, David Jewell, is expecting a crowd of around 10,000 for the running of the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance NZ Oaks – a $400,000 Group One race for fillies.

“Girls’ Day is the last day of the summer racing carnival, a great day to party and as a bonus, the forecast is for sunshine.

“The Girls’ Party Village at Trentham and its day-long entertainment is a sellout with chocolate tasting, fashion and an all-male revue the drawcard for early ticket sales. Other on-course entertainment areas will also be busy and there will plenty of bars and food stalls.

“We have top class fields featuring horses from Dunedin to Whangarei. Megapins, this year’s Wellington Cup winner is back for the ZM Thompson Handicap. There are capacity fields of 18 runners for the $400,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance NZ Oaks and also for up and coming stayers in the $80,000 Skinforme NZ St Leger.

“It’s all in place for a great day’s racing and entertainment,” says David Jewell.
