Voices of tomorrow - young broadcasting recruits

Parents of energetic kids need no longer worry about school holiday entertainment.

Wellington Access Radio is running NOISE WORKS!- a fun and educational holiday programme teaching 8-12 year olds how to make radio.

Since it’s inception in 1981 Wellington Access Radio has worked to develop and support the broadcasting skills of the diverse Wellington community and children are no exception.

“The enthusiasm kids have is infectious and the chance to get their voices heard over the airwaves is not common practice in most Radio Stations. We’re excited about showing the way for the voices of tomorrow”, says Dayle Jones, Wellington Access Radio’s Programme Manager.

The station is eager to recruit interested young people who are curious about broadcast media.

“NOISE WORKS! is perfect for kids who love the sound of their own voices”, says Laura Daly, Project Coordinator at the station. “We’re offering the chance to see the inside workings of a real radio station as well as the opportunity to develop basic editing and interviewing skills”.

The highlight for many will undoubtedly be putting together a music show for broadcast on Wellington Access Radio.

Wellington Access Radio is proud of being the longest serving Access Radio Station in New Zealand. Broadcasting over 100 programmes in more than 25 languages has given the Wellington community an insight into all walks and talks of life.

NOISE WORKS! is running over the Easter school holidays.
