Festval Of Colour Introduces Late Night Club Programme
LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (March 17, 2009) – A new late night club programme has been introduced for this year’s Festival of Colour featuring top New Zealand performers..
“The late night performances follow on from the more traditional programme elements and are going to appeal to that younger age group who aren’t ready to break up the party and want to enjoy some great tunes in a relaxed club-like setting,” said festival director, Philip Tremewan.
Opening the Late Night Club programme on 30 April at 11pm is Vebka, a soulful singer with a smokey voice that pairs subtle emotion with power. Described by one critic as “simply beautiful”, her music sits somewhere between soul, the bass notes of jazz and the high notes from rock.
The following night, immediately after highly acclaimed dance band SJD, Waves of Laughter is a visual collaboration between DJ Anton Carter and Festival favourite, Michel Tuffery, digging deep into the record crates to provide a music journey from the 1970s Viking Records styles through to the latest sounds of now, all expertly interspersed with spoken word along with time-based visual bytes.
“Entirely gorgeous” is how Jess Chambers’ music has been described. The Wellington singer/songwriter has spent years searching for the right sound to accompany her delicate-yet-dynamic voice that soars as high as it swoops low. She is accompanied by Justin ‘Firefly’ Clark (Fat Freddy’s Drop, Age Pryor) whose acoustic guitar rhythms are perfectly matched to Chambers’ voice, and will perform at 11pm on Saturday 2 May.
The Festival of Colour takes place on 28 April to 3 May 2009 and is generously supported by Central Lakes Trust, The Community Trust of Otago, Creative New Zealand, Infinity Investment Group, Queenstown Lakes District Council and Aurora.
