Intrepid Journeys wins TV guide award 2009

Intrepid Journeys won Best Documentary in the 2009 TV Guide Best on the Box awards, announced in the 19 March issue. The awards are the largest people’s choice awards in the country.

"It is a pleasure and a delight to be recognised with the award, while filming is fun, there is a huge amount of work that goes into the planning before we travel and while on the road to ensure the presenter is having fun, a 'real experience' and also telling their story. So this goes a long way to reward us", says JAM TV Producer Dean Cornish.

The crew and the presenters usually travel on an Intrepid Travel small group adventure, original or basix style. The production company JAM TV make the show for TVNZ.

"We are very proud to be part of this successful home-grown show. Intrepid Journeys has been a great exposé of how travel can be, while presenters are getting their hands dirty, the armchair traveller gets to see the country warts and all, others will reminisce on their own adventures and some will decide to head off and explore for themselves, " says Alison Mead, Intrepid Travel NZ General Manager.

The 6th series of Intrepid Journeys is currently being filmed, to go on air later this year. This series has Rhys Darby, "Murray", visiting gorillas in Uganda and Judy Bailey travelling overland from Rio to Buenos Aires. We will see Temepara George enjoy incredible vistas and a taste of ancient history on a journey through Sikkim and Darjeeling, Anika Moa heads off to the ruins, jungles and villages of Mexico and Guatemala, while Kevin Milne spent an interesting but cool time in the Ukraine.

Mr dancing shoes, Brendon Cole, is off to be tamed and challenged in the lesser known parts of Vanuatu and Ruben Wiki gets 'off the beaten track' with a journey to the hidden heart of Asia - Laos.

Look out for the announcement of the 6th series going to air on TV One soon.
