Young Wellington driver to contest Hamilton Street Race
The career of young Wellington driver Jamie McNee has been given a huge boost with the news that he will drive in the Toyota Lights class at the Hamilton street race next weekend.
The 16-year-old Wellington College student finished fourth in the national Formula Ford championship this season, but a crash at Manfeild in the second last round, hit the team hard.
“We had some excellent results mid-season but the bad luck in the final two rounds really set us back,” says Jamie. “It was looking pretty unlikely that we would be able to make Hamilton.”
“We have had great support from Toyota and generous sponsorship from a Wellington Air Conditioning Company called HotChilly means we can now take the place offered at Hamilton,” he says.
“I am really looking forward to racing the Toyota,” says Jamie. “It’s much faster than my Ford, and it should be pretty cool racing it round the streets of Hamilton.”
Jamie will be in one of four or five Toyota Lights racing this weekend. The cars will start of the back of grid in the main race.
Jamie McNee Racing aims to put Jamie into a Toyota for the full championship next season.
