No Luck For Knight At Hamilton

MEDIA RELEASE
22 APRIL 2009

No Luck For Knight At Hamilton

It was a tough finish to a tough season for Andy Knight of Christchurch at the BNT V8s Trophy Event at the Hamilton Street circuit at the weekend.

Knight has shown plenty of signs of his trademark speed throughout his debut season in the BNT V8s category but his transition from single seater race cars to the big V8 saloons has been plagued by a number of frustrating mechanical niggles. Unfortunately the final outing of the year around the streets of the Frankton district of Hamilton continued that trend.

Once again last season's New Zealand Grand Prix and Toyota Racing Series Champion showed a good turn of speed in qualifying, setting a time of 1 minute 34.7832 seconds, good enough for ninth on the grid for the opening race.

That first race was held over 14 laps on Saturday afternoon and Knight took the Milwaukee Falcon up the order to be running in seventh place midway through the race. However as the race went on the car began to lose it's brakes and Knight lost time to eventually cross the line in twelfth place.

In the second race of the weekend Andy was caught up in an incident in the field at the start and was blocked and delayed. That dropped him down the order but as he has done on several occasions this season he skillfully guided the Milwaukee Falcon back through to eleventh position.

In the final race of the season on Sunday afternoon the rear bar on the Milwaukee Falcon broke, resulting in a pit stop before Andy resumed to finish four laps down.

"It didn't finish the way we would have liked, " said Andy as he reflected on another difficult weekend.

After a successful career, mainly in single seater race cars such as Formula Ford's and the Toyota Racing Series, Andy said the racing in the BNT V8s was "different" to what he was used to. "It will be good to come back as we will know what to expect. I'd like to come back and have a good crack at next season."

The Milwaukee Falcon once again carried the number 18 this weekend. The number was first seen on the car at the final round of the BNT V8s Championship last month to coincide with the launch of the new generation 18 volt range of Milwaukee Power Tools.

Milwaukee Power Tools, one of the world's premium power tool brands, Mitre 10 Mega, Latimer Hotel, Pink Batts Silencer, Chemz, Metalman, Elite Transport Refinishers Timaru, John Jones Steel Ltd, Century Yuasa, Novus Auto Glass, B Sport and Omega Rental Cars are supporting Andy Knight's campaign in the 2008/2009 BNT V8s Championship.
