New Zealand Racing Board announces 2009/2010 Racing Calendar

Following consultation with the three racing Codes, racing Clubs and industry organisations over the past six months, the New Zealand Racing Board has today announced the 2009/10 racing calendar.

NZ Racing Board General Manager of Racing & Wagering Bill Colgan says the calendar continues the pattern of holding race meetings across the seven days of the week to optimise domestic and international opportunities for wagering.

The majority of traditional race dates for the 2009/10 season remain unchanged. The Kelt Capital Stakes will be run on Saturday 3 October and New Zealand Cup and Show Week in Christchurch is scheduled for Saturday 7 to Saturday 14 November. Next year, Wellington Cup Day moves back a week to Saturday 30 January, Auckland Cup Week runs from Friday 5 March to Saturday 13 March and the Harness Jewels returns to Cambridge on Saturday 5 June.

A number of Clubs will again participate in the NZ Racing Board-led Summer Festival and Christmas at the Races franchise events this coming season. There will be 42 Christmas at the Races events, including nine new events, and 39 Summer Festival events in the 2009/10 season.

The new racing season starts on 1 August 2009 and goes through to 31 July 2010.
