Gibson Group to create Gold Rush with China.

Wellington Film and TV production company Gibson Group have struck a golden opportunity in a deal with Beijing Yechen Movie and TV Cultural Development Co Limited to co- develop and co-produce a major international drama series called ‘Gold Rush Revelation’.

Mr Qi Lin, President of the Beijing Yechen Movie and TV Cultural Development Company and Mr Dave Gibson, Company Director of Gibson Group will sign the agreement in Wellington on May 12th. The ceremony will be attended by local luminaries in the screen industry and the Chinese community.

“Mr Lin’s passion for the topic was driven by his realisation that present day Chinese migrants and international students were like a contemporary ‘Gold Rush’ as they came to NZ with hopes of a better life” says Mr Gibson.

Beijing Yechen Movie and TV Cultural Development Company is a Chinese based company which focuses on movie and TV development, production, publishing and marketing. Recent productions include a TV series for China called Family in Law and a feature film Love out of Range.

Gibson Group has co-produced major television drama series and feature films with partners based in Canada, Britain, Australia and Sweden. Recent productions include The Hothouse for TVNZ and Paradise Café for the BBC and TVNZ.

“We chose Gibson Group for this project because of its well known reputation in the TV business for honesty, reliability and forward thinking. When I first met Dave I felt we had a lot in common and knew I wanted to work with him” says Mr Lin.

Gold Rush Revelation is a drama that interweaves the lives of the first generation of the Chinese migrants in New Zealand with the lives of their descendants living in contemporary New Zealand a century later. The series will be unusually long comprised of up to 26 hours of television.
