CHARTFEST 2009 Band Search Finalists Found

The hunt is on in NZ Music Month in the leadup to CHARTFEST - Christchurch's NZ Music Month Festival on Friday 29 May to find Christchurch's best high school band. After 21 bands across 6 heats around Christchurch high schools the six finalists have been found.

CHART Manager Jeff Fulton says the standard this year has been excellent: "We've had some really exciting talent come through the CHARTFEST Band Search this year, from the high octane energy of hair metallers AWAKENED INFERNO and skanking reggae dub of THE YOUNG SOULS to the entertaining speed funksters FUNKS FAULT. Trumpets, violins, lap guitars... the bands have really impressed and our judging panel this Friday night will have a tough job."

The CHARTFEST Band Search competition gives talented young musicians from around the city’s high schools the chance to gain exposure and help kick start their careers. There's loads of great prizes including equipment, recording sessions, promo assistance and the opening slot on the Edge CPIT Main Stage at CHARTFEST 2009. Open to anyone at high school, the finalists have been selected from initial audition rounds through school lunchtimes from May 11th to 20th and go to perform their original material live in front of a judging panel and audience on 8pm, Friday 22 May at Zebedees, with the winner performing at CHARTFEST a week later on Friday 29 May.
