Dome-stic bliss at the Central Library

MEDIA ADVISORY
2 June 2009

Dome-stic bliss at the Central Library

Wellingtonians interested in celestial matters will soon be able to explore the night skies during daylight hours, no matter the weather, thanks to the Cosmodome at the Central Library.

The NightVisionz Cosmodome, a large inflatable igloo-like planetarium, will be appearing in the Young Adults area on the ground floor of the Central Library between Tuesday 9 and Saturday 13 June.

The dome will host school visits during the day and will be open to the public between 4pm and 8pm on Tuesday to Friday, and between 10am and 4pm on Saturday. Sessions are on the half-hour and entry is by gold coin donation.

Visitors to the dome will be treated to a digital audio-visual show simulating a journey through the stars. Astronomer Ron Fisher will guide budding stargazers through Matariki and other constellations.

The Cosmodome is suitable for children and adults – library staff advise that there are no bookings and there is a limit on the number of people allowed in the dome during each session, so people should be prepared for the possibility of a short wait.

Media are invited to explore the Cosmodome and talk to star-struck visitors any time between Tuesday 9 and Saturday 13 June – please RSVP using the contact details below.
