MEDIA RELEASE
June 5 2009

Beijing Red Gate Gallery International Artist Residency for Wintec Tutor

Wintec School of Media Arts tutor and artist, Lisa Benson has been accepted in the prestigious Red Gate Gallery residency programme in Beijing.

Benson leaves for China next week for the 3 ½ month studio research and participation programme in the highly sought after international arts community. The residency is supported by Creative New Zealand and the Wintec Research Faculty.

She applied last year for the residency programme which is keenly sought by artists around the world and which accepts six only international artists at a time. The programme is in its tenth year.

“I will have my own loft-apartment studio, funded thought Creative New Zealand and will be riding a bicycle around the local “village” where more than fifty Chinese artists also have studios,” she said.

“I will be showing work, spending time in galleries, meeting artists, dealers, curators and getting to know contemporary Chinese art and artists.”

Benson intends continuing with an art project she began last year in Sarajevo and which she recently presented at Wintec’s RAMP Gallery.
