“The Colbert Report” Heads To Iraq

MEDIA ALERT: Colbert? In Iraq? Nothing could be further from the truthiness.

“The Colbert Report” Heads To Iraq

AUCKLAND, Tuesday 9th June, 2009 – The Emmy award winning The Colbert Report goes where no television show has ever gone before – Iraq.

Though that statement maybe far fetched, indeed Stephen Colbert’s show has become the first show in USO history to produce a week of shows in a combat zone, and marks the second time the show has broadcast in a remote location (the first being Philadelphia in 2008 to cover the Pennsylvania Democratic Primary).

Guests appearing on the show include Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq, Barham Salih; Gen. Ray Odierno, commanding general and Multi National Force- Iraq; Lt. Gen. Charles H. Jacoby, Jr., commanding general amongst others.

Proceeds from sales of “The Colbert Report” on iTunes during the week of June 8 will benefit the USO, a private, nonprofit organization that lifts the spirits of America’s troops and their families – in 2008, celebrity volunteers traveled to 27 countries and 23 states, entertaining more than 236,000 troops and family members.

Colbert said of the special; “The USO counts this as military service, right? I might want to run for office one day.”

“Operation Iraqi Stephen: Going Commando” screens in the United States from June 8th through to June 11th, and airs on Comedy Central NZ this week.
