Wellington Kids Pop Group Finalist In What Now APRA Music Video Awards
The Dancestars have been named as finalists in the What Now APRA Kids Music Video of the Year Awards.
The Dancestars are a kids entertainment group created by Wellington dance studio Dancestars School of Dance and Music. Each performer represents a different genre of dance or singing, and together they mix up pop and rock vocals with ballet, jazz, hip hop and cheer dance moves. Their music video is based on their first song Be The Star You Are.
The other finalists are Let’s Go Outside And Play by The Plops and Buttons by 1-2-3 Tree.
The winner of the music video award will be decided by children’s votes, with voting now open at www.whatnow.tv/apra.aspx Snippets of the finalists’ videos are also being shown on What Now (TV2 8am Sundays).
Kids can also join the Dancestars club at www.dancestars.co.nz and receive a free autographed poster download.
About the
Dancestars
The Dancestars have been performing live together for over four years, including a national tour each year as official entertainers for the Radio Network Special Children's Christmas Parties. Between them, they rotate to cover “stage named”characters. Their real names are Olivia Heatherington, Anna Houston, Finella Sweeney, Kelly Vincent, Brogan Wilkinson, Georgie Heatherington, Hannah Dellow and Ashley Romanos.
As well as attending up to five weekly dance classes, the Dancestars are coached for performances and recordings as a group and love coming up with ideas for videos, lyrics, costumes and their ultimate dream – a Miley-style tour bus!
Their first recorded song Be The Star You Are was co-written by Tui award-winning producer Geoff Duncan with input from songwriter and NZ Idol finalist Ben Hazlewood. They are currently working on a follow-up track.
A Dancestars club has been created for all children who love dance and friendship. Children can join at www.dancestars.co.nz
All profits from downloads of the song Be the Star You Are will be donated to Skylight, a not for profit national organisation helping children, young people and their families/whanau deal with change, loss and grief.
