Gisborne's New Millionaires Have Sleepless Weekend

Media Release 13 July 2009

Gisborne's Newest Millionaires Have Sleepless Weekend

A local Gisborne couple have claimed Saturday's top Lotto First Division prize of $1 million this morning after a couple of sleepless nights.

The winners, who are keen to remain anonymous, flew into Wellington last night and arrived at NZ Lotteries' Wellington office first thing this morning, as the doors opened.

The winners told NZ Lotteries' staff they had only had about two hours sleep over the weekend.

"It's been a long couple of days so it's a relief to hand over the winning ticket," the wife said.

Coming directly to Wellington to claim their prize means that the $1 million prize will be in their bank account tomorrow morning.

"We're looking forward to going to the bank tomorrow and asking for our account balance," the wife said.

The couple have no immediate plans for the million and plan to leave it in the bank and revisit their windfall in a few months.

"We're keen to keep this quiet so it's life as usual for us," the husband said.

The winning ticket was purchased from Blockbuster Gisborne. The couple say they usually buy their weekly ticket from this store and will continue to do so.

Blockbuster Gisborne Lotto owner, Dean Easton, was excited to hear that his winners were regulars to the store.

"This is our first big win so we're very happy about this," he said.
