Marston looks to up pace at Wairarapa.
Christchurch driver Josh Marston is aiming to up his pace when the New Zealand Rally Championship kicks back into life with round four, the Rally Wairarapa.
With the help and experience of co-driver ‘Crunch’ Bennett, Marston has put the RDL Performance Evo 8 third in both the Rookie and Junior Championships and seventh in the prestigious Group N Gold Star standings, but for Wairarapa the 24 year old is hoping to up the pace a notch and aim for the top spot.
The last round at Whangarei saw Marston going well until head gasket failure late on day one meant he had to cruise through the remaining stages, showing great maturity to get the car back to the overnight service.
The team applied a temporary fix which lasted a couple of stages, but Marston wasn’t going to give up so easily and nursed the car home to score valuable points.
Since then the RDL performance rally team have had a test that Marston describes as “Very Positive” with good gains made by both driver and co-driver.
Also between events, Marston was one of only two rally drivers picked to attend the prestigious Elite Motorsport Academy and by weeks end had impressed enough to be named by the judges as the winner.
“The Academy was great, It certainly taught me a lot and to be named the winner was the icing on the cake. Now we just have to implement all the skills that were learnt and improve our performance at Wairarapa.” Says Marston.
