New cyclists encouraged to get their ‘trainer wheels’ on

Beginner cyclists are encourage to join the BNZ Trainer Wheels Programme to assist them in their first attempt at the Wattyl Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge, which will be held on November 28.

The BNZ-sponsored programme is aimed at providing support and encouragement to beginner cyclists who may be interested in participating in one of the events which form the Cycle Challenge, New Zealand’s largest cycling event

Glenn Patrick, BNZ Chief Operating Officer – Retail says, “We are very excited to be a part of this event. The BNZ Trainer Wheels Programme encourages people who wouldn’t normally ride to have a go and set a goal to participate in the Cycle Challenge.”

BNZ Trainer Wheels is aimed at those wanting to participate in a first time attempt of the iconic Lake Taupo event either as a Linfox relay rider tackling 40kms or an individual in the 160km BNZ Solo Challenge.

Keith Crate, Event Director of Cycle Challenge says, “You don’t need any special equipment to participate in our event – just a helmet, safe bike and the determination to finish.”

“Understandably, new entrants have lots of questions and we want to provide as much support as possible,” Crate says.

All BNZ Trainer Wheel riders will receive a special Riders Pack which will include a high-visibility vest, basic hints on buying a bike, riding techniques, clothing, nutrition, safe riding, a training programme for beginners, and some fun items to keep them motivated and in training.
