Community Action Day in Northern Suburbs
Community Action Day in Northern Suburbs
On Saturday 5th September over 150 young people from all over the Wellington region will descend on the northern suburbs to help out doing jobs for locals.
Cleaning bus shelters, clearing streams, and tidying gardens for older residents are just some of the jobs on the work programme for the young volunteers involved.
The work is part of the Soul Active Day being organized by local churches in association with Soul Active - with support from a wide cross section of community groups in the northern suburbs of Wellington – including the Churton Park Community Association (CPCA).
“I want to thank the local Churches and others who have helped in organizing this Day. In particular a big thank you to CPAC Youth Worker Pete Watson who has co-ordinated the Day’s organisation” says Roger Ellis, President of the Churton Park Community Association.
“We’re pleased to be associated with this Day. It follows on a very successful day a couple of years ago which demonstrated that churches, local community groups, young people and local residents were enthusiastic about working together to change things for the better” says Roger Ellis, President of the CPCA.
The day’s activities will be based at Churton Park School between 10am and 4pm. Wellington City Council made a contribution towards the cost of the BBQ lunch which is to be held at 1pm.
