EUROMAXX ON TOUR: The Blossoming Border

This year, Germany is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall.

To mark the occasion, euromaxx reporter Anne-Katrin Gottschling is embarking on a grand tour. Traveling on a Simson motor scooter, she takes a two-week tour along what used to be Germany’s internal border, from the Baltic Sea to the Vogtland.

At just under 1,400 kilometers in length, the old border region has remained largely untouched since communist East Germany closed its borders to the West, and has become a paradise for rare animals and birds. Referred to as a green belt, several German states have since designated the region an environmental conservation area. Gottschling’s tour is more than just an appreciation of natural beauty, for she also bears witness to the evidence of Germany’s division.

EUROMAXX from 22 September to 4 October: Triangle TV 6:00pm daily except Saturday; Stratos 10:00pm daily except Saturday
