Two prestigious red wine events
Registrations are keen for two prestigious red wine events
Registrations opened this week for two
prestigious red wine educational events being held back to
back in January next year and already numbers of
international and national industry leaders looking to
attend is keen.
The New Zealand Cabernet Merlot Forum and the New Zealand Syrah Symposium are being held in Hawke’s Bay’s on January 29 and 30 respectively and will provide the expected 200-plus growers, winemakers and industry participants a full two-day educational programme.
When registrations opened on 1 September there was already a line-up of people who had joined the virtual queue for tickets through the websites www.cabernetmerlotforum.co.nz and www.syrahsymposium.co.nz
The event, being hosted by Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers Inc at the invitation of New Zealand Winegrowers, further cements Hawke’s Bay’s reputation as the leading red wine centre of the country. “Hawke’s Bay’s reputation for quality red wines, particularly of Bordeaux-style and Syrah, is gaining traction around the world and the opportunity these events hold to further raise our profile is tremendous,” says Rod McDonald, Chair of Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers.
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for our local red wine producers to rub shoulders and learn from some of the world’s experts which can only help us to lift the quality of our wines even further, and give the region even greater competitive advantage. And having some international media and trade heavyweights here won’t be a bad thing for business either.”
Many of these were international commentators and industry participants who are attending New Zealand Pinot Noir 2010 being held in Wellington from 1 to 4 February. “They are delighted that their trip to New Zealand can incorporate our events to give them a comprehensive update on where New Zealand is at with its wines, and why it is we produce such a diversity of quality wines,” says Lyn Bevin, HBWG Executive Officer. An Aromatics Symposium is also being held in Nelson on 6 February to round off the week-long wine educational opportunity.
The Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Merlot and Syrah events will be held at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House, with a comparative tasting also there early on the Friday evening. This will feature tastings of Hawke’s Bay red wines against Bordeaux, Australia and other noted red wine regions around the world. Following that a dinner with Hawke’s Bay’s winemakers and producers will be held on the Friday evening for all delegates.
