Wintec is to host its fifth annual "International Celebration Week" to raise campus awareness of different cultures, from 19th - 22nd October.

Organised by Wintec’s International Centre and staff and students from across the institute, International Celebration Week aims to build understanding of and celebrate the diverse cultures within the Wintec community. The week will provide an informative, educational and entertaining look into unique aspects of many different nationalities, as well as promote internationalisation at the institute.

"The goal of the week is to provide an opportunity for students from all countries to learn more about and interact with the many different cultures on campus," said Pam Bird, International Centre Manager.

Starting off the week on Monday October 19th will be Dr. Gavin Sanderson, Deputy Director Academic Learning Services, at the University of South Australia who will run two two hour workshops. His area of expertise is the internationalisation of the curriculum.

Beginning on Tuesday will be a full programme of international events including tai chi, kick boxing, henna hand painting, belly dancing and performances from the Melville High School Kapa Haka group and the Columbian Dance Group.

Sporting events during the week include a table tennis tournament and a soccer tournament with teams comprising international and domestic students and staff of Wintec. This will be held on the institute’s Avalon Campus sports field. Most of the other events including Chinese circus acrobats and an 11:00.am. to 7:00 p.m. market day with a range of ethnic product for sale, are on the city campus. Members of the public are welcome.

The variety concert including performances by students, staff, and local community groups, at Hamilton’s Meteor Theatre will wrap up the week’s events.
