Brooklyn residents ready to 'Eat So They Can'
Stomachs are beginning to rumble as Eat So They Can (ESTC), the global fundraiser to help stop child poverty, draws near. Eat So They Can is a Global Volunteer Network Foundation initiative that invites citizens of the world to take part in what is collectively one huge dinner party, where something as simple as sharing a meal with friends can help stop child poverty.
Brooklyn resident, Kelsi Doscher, has joined the campaign and pledged her support by organising a fundraising dinner on October 17.“ We will be serving a full African dinner, holding a silent auction, and providing entertainment from a local Wellington band. My goal is to raise over $2,500” said Ms Doscher.
Ms Doschers fundraiser is one of fifty events occurring across New Zealand over the Eat So They Can Weekend. Funds raised at events will go towards supporting orphanages and schools in Africa and providing children with the essentials for survival.
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) 2009 statistics, 1.02 billion people do not have enough to eat - more than the populations of USA, Canada and the European Union.
Ms Doscher is hungry for social change and is urging the Wellington community to get involved by joining the Eat So They Can campaign and holding a dinner party of their own, no matter how big or small, to help put an end to child poverty.
“By joining ‘Eat So They Can’ you will have the chance to not only enjoy great food with friends, you will be making a difference to the lives of children in need,” said Ms Follent.
The ESTC fundraiser supports the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty that is observed each year on October 17.
