His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex KG KCVO was greeted by an enthusiastic throng of students and a resounding welcome from the Linwood College Kapa Haka group when he arrived there on Tuesday 3 November.
‘The Award in Action’ Event, attended by almost 400 people, was where His Royal Highness met with young people from different groups – including The Helen Anderson Trust, Ferndale Special School, Canterbury Vision Challenge / Elmwood Resource Centre, Aranui High School and Linwood College – who undertake The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award.
As Chairman of The International Council of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award His Royal Highness visited this Event at Linwood College to see first hand the scope and range of the Award Programme in New Zealand. Some of those His Royal Highness met are being supported through a Partnership between The Ministry of Youth Development and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award.
The young people involved in The Award Programme enjoyed showcasing their achievements to His Royal Highness through both audiovisual and static displays.
Andrew Meehan, Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award, stated that ‘we are proud that this Award is acting as a catalyst to challenge all young people to excel and to reach their potential.’
