FECUNDUS by Silencio Ensemble

FECUNDUS by Silencio Ensemble

AT THE GREAT HALL (ARTS CENTRE)
MONDAY NOVEMBER 30 2009
8.00pm / $10

FECUND; Prolific, fertile, fertilizing, to impregnate or make fruitful

GARDEN; Piece of ground devoted to growing, to cultivate

Fecundus by Silencio Ensemble continues our work with the theme of listening as a creative force.
The first concern of the work is to be present through a sustained, meditative sound experience; focused less on virtuosity, but rather on focus itself.

Starting with collected recordings of common sound images we may encounter in the garden, a place for tending and growth, we make under this a kind of sound garden; an abstract landscape where our own sounds, ideas and dreams can also grow.

Fecundus is structured around four basic music headings: rhythm, texture, harmony and melody, each of which provides a framework for close exploration by the ensemble.

We celebrate the creative potential of our collective voice through intense, purposeful listening; to each other and the space we occupy. We look to be relational through sound with the abundant force which lets
life grow.

This performance will shift the familiarities of live performance in order to aid an open first-time discovery of the sound experience. Please be free to wander or sit where you feel comfortable, perhaps as you might
in your own garden?
