The Big Night In

          PRESS RELEASE

The Big Night In
presents in association with Juice TV, Bnet and The Groove Guide

The Veils

True Lovers (NYC)

Cairo Knife Fight

         Valedictions (Auckland Only)

The Big Day Out takes its Big Night In warm-up carnival on the road this year with a line-up of The Veils, True Lovers and Cairo Knife Fight.

The three bands play Wellington’s San Francisco Bath House on Wednesday 13 January and the Kings Arms in Auckland on Thursday 14 January before all taking
to the stage at the Big Day Out the following day.

It’s a stunning line-up of two of the country’s finest semi-expat bands, half-English act The Veils and the New York domiciled True Lovers, alongside Cairo Knife Fight
whose rejuvenated two-man line-up has been on the end of rave reviews over the past few months.

The Veils’ sell-out New Zealand dates in November were a revelation for fans who revelled in the bands’ stunning and polished delivery of songs from their three
acclaimed albums including the just-released Sun Gangs.

True Lovers make their New Zealand debut in January but the band’s frontman Dion Lunadon and lead guitarist Ben Maitland are of course well known in these parts.
The True Lovers hold fast to the rock’n’roll roots Dion laid down here in the mighty D4 while Ben’s Boxcar Guitars were a highly regarded Auckland band and he toured as

a sideman with Bic Runga. With an album due for release in March and their single “Death Threat” burning up the airwaves, the dirty swagger of this band is not to be missed.

Cairo Knife Fight have pared their line-up down to an essential duo – guitarist Aaron Tokona of Weta and drummer Nick Gaffaney of enough bands to mention to fill a phone book have been in the studio working on an album of effects- drenched heavy duty progedelica that is going to blow some minds at these shows.

Plus in Auckland, there is a further D4 connected addition to the bill, with drummer Beaver Pooley joining forces with former members of Pan Am in the exciting new act, Valedictions.
Four bands in one night, not to be missed on your way to the Big Day Out 2010.

The Big Day Out brings The Veils and True Lovers two of the country’s finest semi-expat bands back to the country in January and is teaming them up with Cairo Knife Fight and  Valedictions:
