YouTube reveals New Zealand’s most watched videos of 2009

Susan Boyle, Smashproof and body-painted cabin crew capture Kiwis’ imaginations

Auckland, 16 December 2009 – YouTube today announced its first official Most Watched lists - a look at 2009 through the videos New Zealanders have been watching and searching for.

Among the videos most watched by Kiwis this year were Air New Zealand’s cabin crew baring all in body paint; the music video to Smashproof’s hit single ‘Brother’; and a video featuring a fast food order put to music.

Google New Zealand’s Annie Baxter says: “From a new singer’s debut on the world stage to homegrown New Zealand hip-hop, in 2009 YouTube has offered Kiwis a way to share in the big and small moments that touch millions of people around New Zealand and the world.”

In addition to compiling the Most Watched lists, YouTube also examined the billions of queries that people typed into YouTube search in 2009 to identify some of the fastest-rising search terms for each month. Like Google Zeitgeist, these lists reveal the interests, issues, and entertainment that connected the world throughout the year.

Lists of 2009’s most watched videos in New Zealand and around the world follow. Click on the links to watch the videos.
