Sense and Sustainability at Pinot Noir
2010
In what was widely regarded as the
most exciting tasting at Pinot Nor 2010 so far New Zealand
was applauded for being world leaders in sustainable
winemaking.
“Thirteen sustainably produced wines were tasted and commended for their character and ‘New World-ness’, said Pinot Noir 2010 spokesman Robert Brewer.
“There was a palpable buzz running across the 6,000 plus glasses in the formal tasting hall as the wines were sampled and then commented on,” said Robert.
“International speakers were united in their overwhelming praise for the impressive progress New Zealand winemakers have made in organic, biodynamic and sustainable practices,” he said.
The formal tasting of sustainably produced wine was at the end of a morning where speakers encouraged New Zealand winemakers to be openly proud of their ability to make great wine and to do it sustainably.
“There is little doubt that New Zealand produces fantastic Pinot Noir and now no doubt that we can do this in a sustainable way,” Robert said.
