Get In Quick To Become Best Bun Baker

Press Release

Get In Quick To Become New Zealand’s Best Bun Baker

Bakers nationwide are being urged to get in quick if they want to be crowned New Zealand’s best Easter bun maker in this year’s Champion® Easter Bun Bake Off 2010.

Goodman Fielder’s National Field Sales Manager, Paul Howley, said registrations are set to close at the end of this month.

“Last year’s champion – the Ten O’clock Cookie Bakery Café in Masterton – is already registered. It will take a lot to beat their winning formula, given that last year was their third win in a row.

“Registration is free and entrants receive posters and display bins to put up in their bakeries.”

For the first time in the Bakeoff’s history, the experienced judging panel will crown a North Island and South Island winner.

“Bakeries will need to be on top of their game if they want to satisfy the taste buds of an industry judging panel,” Paul said.

Judges will assess buns for: straight and over crosses; application of bun glaze; crust colour; symmetry and batching of product; crumb softness; even dispersal of fruit and; aromatic flavour.

“As with previous years, in order to be eligible for judging each bakery must use three Champion products, one of which must be either Champion Premix Hot Cross Bun mix or Champion Flour,” Paul said.

Bakeries can request a registration pack by calling 0800 11 0800 or registering online at www.championflour.co.nz.

The North Island and South Island winners of the Easter Bun Bakeoff 2010 will be announced in March.
