Two packed nights of sublime Kiwi music

Two packed nights of sublime Kiwi music

Media Release

For Immediate Release Wednesday 24th February 2010

The world’s a stage and next month in New Plymouth some of New Zealand’s most accomplished performers will be showing off their prowess with the real chance of being invited to tour overseas.

The international opportunities are only part of the inaugural Sounds Aotearoa. It offers musicians and industry professionals the opportunity to network and learn from leading music experts from New Zealand and overseas. Fortunately for New Zealand music fans it also offers the opportunity to hear great NZ music at a very reasonable price.

As an attempt to increase our international presence we decided to create an event whereby the world’s programmers and buyers came to experience our music, our culture on our shores.

Artistic Director; Emere Wano called for artist applications and was overwhelmed by the response resulting in two packed nights of sublime Kiwi music showcases.

“The showcases give you the chance to see nine New Zealand acts over two nights at the one venue, the Theatre Royal TSB Showplace here in New Plymouth!” she says.

Wednesday evening 10th March features the hauntingly beautiful songs of Whirimako Black & Richard Nunns, the infectious energy of international loop artist Mihirangi, sultry Bella Kalolo and the soaring vocals of Kirsten Morrell and Anika Moa.

Thursday evening features the earthy infusion of Maisey Rika and Tama Waipara, the pulsing sound of An Emerald City, the electrifying rock of Little Bushman and the dance beats of Kora.

Tickets to the showcases are available to the public but are selling out fast.

Sounds Aotearoa has delegates registered from the USA, UK, Korea, Germany, Australia and Hawaii as well as NZ musicians and agents.

The Conference day programmes offer workshops and forums covering topics on domestic and international touring, band management, marketing and promotion, funding channels, World music media and labels and more.

Tickets for both Wednesday and Thursday night’s showcases are available from Ticketek www.ticketek.co.nz or at the box office at the TSB Showplace, Devon Street, New Plymouth.

Cost per night is $40 + service fees (pre-booked) and $50 + service fees at the door.
