GT Radial Hollywood Knights Embark On Variety Bash Crusade
Ewen ‘The Westie’ Gilmour and the GT Radial Hollywood Knights are setting out on a new crusade, this time embarking on the annual Variety Bash which gets underway in Christchurch this weekend.
The Bash contingent, consisting of more than 50 vehicles and 250 people from both sides of the Tasman, will visit almost 35 schools over the week as the convoy makes its way north to Auckland, enjoying overnight stops in Hanmer Springs, Nelson, Takaka, Blenheim, Masterton, Wanganui and National Park.
This year’s event is particularly significant, as it is the 20th anniversary of the first ever New Zealand Bash.
“I’ve been privileged to do more than 10 Bashes and I think they take on greater importance with every one you do,” said GT Radial team captain and Variety Ambassador, Ewen Gilmour.
“Our aim is to raise money during the Bash and distribute Variety grants to needy individuals and organisations, but if we can bring even just a few smiles into the lives of kids and their families then I will consider our involvement a success.
“It’s when times are tough the good work done by Variety and the army of Bash participants really shines through.”
The GT Radial team travel in a 1992 Ford Falcon stretched limo, decked out in race-car livery and which sports a series of modifications including fully-functional airbag suspension.
“We’d love people to come and say hi when they see the Bash arrive in town,” said Ewen.
“We have plenty of giveaways and would be
grateful if people contribute a gold coin donation to the
cause. We might even let people jump in the GT Radial Limo
for a quick dip in the spa pool if they put some folding
stuff in the collection
bucket.”
