Buzz Aldrin, Bands and Technology at Planet 2010 public day

Aucklanders will have a chance to hear former American astronaut Buzz Aldrin speak at Planet 2010.

Aldrin, who was the second man to walk on the Moon, will appear alongside comedian Dai Henwood (who will be MC for the day) at the opening of the public day on Saturday March 13th at the Sky City Convention Centre.

The Planet 2010 communications and technology conference is being organised by the Telecommunications Industry Group (TIG) and will run on March 12th and 13th. The two-day conference will see the telecommunications industry come together for the first time to showcase the future and value of communications technology to New Zealand. Friday will cater to a business audience while Saturday will be open to the public.

The public day is free to enter and will run from 9am to 5pm. The exciting line up includes performances by New Zealand bands Midnight Youth, The Checks, J Williams, Scribe, and Savage. There’ll also be competitions, an industry expo of leading-edge technology, and discussions on working in the industry for school leavers and university students.

A special addition to the public day is the New Zealand premier screening of WE LIVE IN PUBLIC. The 2009 Sundance Grand Jury US Documentary prize winner from award winning director Ondi Timoner. This screening is limited to the first 100 at the theatre room. This film explores the effect of the web on our society and screens at 1:30 pm.
