Walk2Work Day With A Difference
Press Release
Walk2Work
Wednesday March 10
Rail commuters heading into Dunedin from the north on Walk2Work Day are in for a trip with a difference.
For the first time in decades the Upper Port Chalmers (Ajax Street) Station will be in use. Locals have attacked the 'stations' rampant vegetation and some claim that, given the celebratory nature of the occasion, some 'fancy dress' is in order. (Approx. arrival time at Port Chalmers - 8.15am)
Local musicians along the line have been persuaded to board with their instruments so there promises to be some 'unplugged' entertainment in many of the carriages.
And it's not just people the train will bring to town. Fresh produce collected from gardens north of the city will be presented to Mayor Chin when the train arrives at Dunedin Station at approximately 8.40am.
There may just be too much for the Chin family so much of it may be headed for the nearest Foodbank.
