Hip new brochure for over 50s
Hip new brochure for over 50s
ROTORUA 15.03.10: Rotorua District Council
has released a new brochure brimming with fun activities and
courses for the over 50s.
H.I.P. Stuff for Baby Boomers aims to get local ‘soon-to-be-seniors’ involved in hobbies, interests and passions.
RDC Community Policy & Resources manager Ann Esler says the initiative is to help over 50s enjoy a proactive approach to aging.
“One positive way to age actively is to get involved in new, or reconnect with former, hobbies, interests, clubs and organisations as retirement draws nearer.
“Strong connections such as these significantly enhance the quality of life as people age. Research studies have shown people who participate in activities with others, often enjoy the added benefit of improved health and well-being.”
Activities in the brochure are featured under three headings – Discovery, Creative, and Active, - and include information on where people can attend voluntary work, dance classes, a variety of crafts, write a family history, master Te Reo, learn to fly, and activities with wheels.
H.I.P. Stuff for Baby Boomers is available from Rotorua District Council’s Customer Centre, various retail and community organisations, and on the council website, www.rdc.govt.nz, under the Recreation tab.
