School leaders take up the challenge

School
leaders take up the challenge
15 MARCH
2010
Youth want to lead change in their
communities in 2010. This idea became apparent on Monday the
8th when over 120 secondary school leaders from the
Wellington area gathered at Victoria University’s Pipitea
Campus. These motivated student leaders united in Wellington
Central for the On The Edge Leadership Forum to begin the
year as youth leaders in unity.
ON THE EDGE Trust is a social enterprise, created by school leaders in 2003, that seeks to build the capacity of leadership in Wellington – in their colleges and communities. The Trust’s aim is to share leadership insights, tools, resources, practical solutions and ideas with the other youth leaders.
Monday’s Forum has started this year for On The Edge with momentum, introducing secondary school leaders to each other and giving the students the capacity to now work as a collective. The young, passionate crew from On The Edge hopes this forum has inspired 2010’s young people to have a positive impact in their communities.
Youth of today are generally portrayed in a dark, irresponsible light, with many bad connotations from drink driving to vandalism and theft. On The Edge are challenging this year’s youth to change this negative image. As Monday’s students began introductions and settled their nerves the atmosphere became driven and excited. Over the coming year On The Edge Trust hopes with the help of the trust these young leaders will take initiative within their own communities and gain credit for their own success.
The Forum was just the beginning of this year for On The Edge; the beginning of motivating this year’s youth to expand their existing talents and think to levels beyond what they thought was possible.
