Call Yourself A Super Rugby Fan?

Rugby fans. Most New Zealanders could describe themselves as fans of at least one rugby team – but what is it that makes a ‘great’ fan?

Is it the kind of person who never misses their favourite side play? The one who has season tickets every year? Is it the diehard faithful who gets the whole family up at all times of the night and early morning to see the game live? The fan who can tell you every answer to every rugby-related question since the early days of the game? The one who subscribed to SKY just for the rugby? Or the one who still isn’t speaking to you because you blurted out the results to the game he was just about to watch a replay of?

Lets face it, there are many ways fans can show support for their favourite team, but this season New Zealand rugby fans have the chance to let everyone else know their true colours by vying for the title of ‘New Zealand’s Greatest Fan’.

adidas, in support of this year’s Rebel Sport Super 14 series, is looking for New Zealand’s Greatest Rebel Sport Super 14 Fan in a competition that will truly sort out the fans from the pretenders.

The fan competition culminates in an end of season play-off, where five Rebel Sport Super 14 players will select their own team’s biggest Super Fan, who will go on to compete in the ‘Great Super Fan Quiz Contest’.

And to the victor - the spoils.

The winner of the Greatest Fan radio competition will be duly named New Zealand’s ‘Greatest Super Fan’, and honoured with a life-sized, aluminium, portrait statue that will be specially constructed and put on display at their team’s home ground.

adidas New Zealand Marketing Manager Nadia Scott says that the Greatest Fan competition is the perfect way to get rugby fans in the mood for the upcoming Rebel Sport Super 14 Series, and provides a fantastic forum to recognise – and reward – New Zealand’s greatest fans of the sport.

“We know that kiwis are fiercely loyal to their team and we love the idea that some insanely-dedicated rugby fanatic is going to end up with a statue of themselves in their team’s home town,” she said.

Any member of the public who buys this season’s Rebel Sport Super14 jersey will receive two tickets to a Super Rugby game. In addition, they’ll be in the draw to win one of a number of prizes specially suited to appeal to loyal Kiwi fans including signed jerseys, a season’s pass for 2011, or Predator boots signed by Daniel Carter.
