The non-genre, Internet-based songwriting competition which is being run from New Zealand provides theme and values based songwriting competitions which partner with humanitarian and other charities to encourage, inspire and empower positivity in songwriting.
The competition which closes for entries on 31st March, 2010 aims to invite participation from NZ cultural minorities.
Prizes are being awarded for both New Zealand and International artists.
THE INSPIRATION: 30 HUMAN RIGHTS VIDEOS
Entrants from a diverse variety of cultures and forms of musical expression worldwide have been invited to set aside genre and create a single piece of music which best encapsulates an inspired peace or human rights message. In the case of 'Peace Song', 30 Human Rights PSA (public service announcement) videos created by www.youthforhumanrights.org are being shared to form the basis of inspiration for songwriters to write a song which could influence audiences to positive change. http://www.nzsingersongwriters.co.nz/Site/Video.html The NZ Online Songwriting Competition aims to raise awareness of the 30 human rights common to all nationalities and foster a great awareness of these from the NZ public by sharing the messages and the music through online social networks.

PEOPLE
The competition has been created by Russian immigrant Yulia & her husband/manager Glyn MacLean as part of a family vision to inspire, encourage and empower Musicians and singers to embrace positive values in music. Their company Oikos Music www.oikos.co.nz has also created www.findmyvoice.co.nz an educational program which has toured the 'Yulia & Friends' show around NZ communities, winning rave reviews and standing ovations. Since marrying in 2008, the happy couple have supported NZ charities to raise over NZ$1million.
Glyn MacLean comments, "The competition is an opportunity to present something positive to the world and export the values of cultural diversity from NZ. Partnering with Sonicbids has supported the competition to become truly International. We have already received a large volume of competition entries from Australia, Canada, USA, Hungary, Spain, Ireland and the Slovak Republic. However we would also like to encourage New Zealand's songwriters to submit their entries. When you ask songwriters to write about values they will deliver. We have songs ranging from Aboriginal injustice to celebrating being above the waterline in New Orleans. The songs are very moving. "
