RAAF Jets Are Set To Impress At New Zealand International Airshow

Royal Australian Air Force jets will be among the many ‘stars’ lining up to entertain thousands of spectators with an aerial display at the Warbirds over Wanaka International Airshow held in New Zealand over the Easter weekend.

F/A-18 Hornets from 3 Squadron based at RAAF Williamtown, NSW will impress with a four-ship airfield attack sequence coordinated with on field pyrotechnics in the morning on each show day and return in the afternoon to demonstrate precision formation flying.

The aircraft will be in New Zealand on exercise with the RNZAF between 29 March and 13 April, and will be taking ‘time out’ to appear at the show.

Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Mark Binskin, said the airshow provides an important opportunity to further extend Australia’s close defence relationship with New Zealand.

“The speed and precision of the F/A-18 Hornets are sure to impress as they showcase formations during the airshow”.

Warbirds Over Wanaka CEO, Roger Clark, said the Hornets will perform on Saturday and Sunday during the airshow at Easter.

He added that at the past two Warbirds Over Wanaka events in 2008 and 2006 an F-111 jet had thrilled crowds, swooping in from the North and giving a loud and dramatic display.

“Now having four Hornets flying in formation over the mountains to show off their heavy metal at Wanaka will give airshow visitors a unique experience. It will be something people will remember for the rest of their lives”.

Over 60 aircraft will be on show at the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow 2010. The airshow is being held on the 3rd and 4th of April 2010.
