New Cycling in Auckland website

New Cycling in Auckland website

A new website, http://cyclingauckland.co.nz, has been launched today.

According to the ‘About’ blurb on the website, “it is a grass roots collaborative website that is written by a diverse group of people, with different opinions and ideas about cycling that are borne out of their own experiences of riding in Auckland.” The idea for the website was conceived by Jenny Marshall, a.k.a. Unity Finesmith of Auckland Cycle Chic and co-organiser of the Auckland chapter of Frocks on Bikes, as the next step in the renaissance of cycling as an important transport option in Auckland. As she explains “the aim of this website is to strengthen and grow our bicycling community by sharing what we know, help ‘almost’ cyclists to get on their bicycles, and bring together some of the many different cycling clusters around Auckland”.

Cycling in Auckland has been set up by Su Yin Khoo, a designer and blogger at Good Magazine, and Jenny in their spare time. The changing content on the website is written by both Jenny and Su Yin as well as: Mark Bracey, Chair of Cycle Action Auckland; Antoine Pethers, of Bike Friendly North Shore; Tim White, of T. White’s Bikes; Jay Herself, of Auckland City Bike Polo; and Alex Raichev, of VeloCity.

The CIA operatives, as they call themselves, hope that the website will become a central point of reference for cyclists around Auckland wanting to know such things as the latest updates on events and cycling infrastructure, basic bicycle maintenance, cycle routes suitable for their experience level, and links to cycling related resources. The website also provides some basic information for those wishing to get back on their bikes or try cycling for the first time.

The Cycling in Auckland team welcome your feedback and are interested in hearing from you if there is anything else that you, as a Cyclist in Auckland, want to see on the website.
