Wellington Debut for New Queen Anne

Wellington Debut for New Queen Anne

Originally established in Wellington in 1925 with the help of Canadian confectioners Morton Patterson and Hugh Smith, the Queen Anne Chocolate Studio in College Street first released their sweet treats in 1926, and continued on to become the nation's favourite chocolatiere for 50 years.

With over 60 varieties of hand dipped chocolates, they established hallmark shops featuring the classic leadlight windows in main centres throughout New Zealand.

Sarah Adams, granddaughter of original founder, Ernest Adams, says she always enjoys coming to Wellington and considers it “the home and heart of Queen Anne.”

Researching her grandfather's past, led Sarah to re-launch Queen Anne Chocolates in 1998 with the original half pound and one pound assortments in their classic blue script on white box.

This year, Sarah has recreated another long cherished kiwi flavour and believes it is truly fitting that visitors to the Wellington Food Show May 14-16, are first to try the new product. They will also be first to see the enhanced box design that perfectly captures the elegant nostalgia of the crest and its regal palette.

Today, the Queen Anne range still features all natural fillings and flavours, including a dark chocolate selection of soft centres, and several treat sized boxes with favourites like mint nougat, ginger, butterscotch caramels and the ever popular fudge trio.

Fans sending letters and emails recalling their memories of the premium chocolates and their gratitude for the restoration of their beloved brand continue to make Sarah’s journey into the confectionery business a worthwhile one.

Sarah considers it is important to honour the quality of the brand that started her grandfather’s career so many years ago and values a philosophy of “cherishing the past while embracing the future.”
