City Gallery events and exhibitions May 24-30

City Gallery is well into changeover mode now, with the Festival Season coming down and our new season beginning to take shape.

Our new exhibitions John Pule: Hauaga (Arrivals) and Ready to Roll open on May 29, but the Deane and Hirschfeld Galleries are open throughout the changeover period.

I’m scheduling interview opportunities for both John Pule and the Ready to Roll artists now, so please let me know ASAP if you’re keen to talk to them and I’ll slot you in – there’s only a limited amount of time so it would pay to get in quick.

Public events (Week Mon 24 May –Sun 30 May)
Saturday 29 May, 10am-5pm.
Art in Oceania: Historical Perspectives, Contemporary Issues
A Symposium

In this symposium, members of the Marsden funded Art in Oceania Project will present public lectures based on some of their work, while a group of panellists will reflect on current issues facing the practice and curating of contemporary Maori and Pacific art. Speakers include Nicholas Thomas (Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology, Cambridge University), Lissant Bolton (The British Museum), Peter Brunt (Victoria University of Wellington) and Sean Mallon (Te Papa Tongarewa/Museum of New Zealand).
