Support for Out Takes Film Festival

Filmmakers show their support for Out Takes Film Festival

Of the three New Zealand films in the festival, Christopher Bank’s Communication is already award winning. Following its premiere in Turin, Italy, it’s being shown in festivals around the world and scooped the Outstanding Short Film in the 2010 Q-bliss Creating Change Community Awards – the largest gay and lesbian media awards in the USA - just last week.

“It’s a thrill for a small New Zealand film to have such an impact and affinity with an international audience,” says Chris Banks.

Short fiction film Evelyn Everyone by Melbourne-based Wellingtonian, Kylie Plunkett stars well known New Zealand actor Loren Horsley. It mixes animation and live action to create a dizzying love story of a geek done good.

“Its becoming more and more difficult to tell New Zealand stories on film,” says Kylie Plunkett, “I missed out on New Zealand funding for my film and had to go to Australia.”

The festival also features the World Premiere of An Evening with Richard O’Brien by Waikato’s Fiona Jackson – giving a rarely seen insight into the creator of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Richard O’Brien.

Simon Fulton, chief programmer of the Out Takes Reel Queer Film Festival, says the calibre of this year’s films is amazing and it’s good to see filmmakers from here and abroad, come and support their pride and joy.

The festival gets underway with a Gala Opening Night this Thursday at the Rialto Newmarket Cinema in Auckland and at the Paramount Theatre in Wellington on Thursday 3rd June. Tickets are on sale now. More information at www.outtakes.org.nz

Christopher Banks, Kylie Plunket, Fiona Jackson and Lauren Palmigiano are all available for interviews. High Resolution Images of the films are also available.
