& Nick Annis’ Song: ‘By My Silence’
Six judges partnered with Facebook and Myspace audiences to award the top prize consisting of $10,000 value to a USA singer-songwriter hailed by Grammy Award winning pop songwriter Michael Bolton as “An Amazing Artist and Spirit”.
Ellen Bukstel teamed up with her lifetime friend and fellow songwriter Nick Annis to pen the poignant human rights song “By My Silence” which has been chosen from amongst hundreds of entries submitted from over 10 countries to become the first winner of New Zealand’s inaugural ‘PEACE SONG’.
RUNNER UP & NEW ZEALAND WINNER Songwriters: ‘Poppy Dust’ (Band) Song: ‘Jelly Beans’
The Competitions Second place winner is the New Zealand based pop band ‘Poppy Dust’ who have won an opportunity to prepare their song ‘Jelly Beans’ for commercial radio with NZ Music Award winning producer Chris White.
PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD Songwriter: ‘Frances’ Song: ‘Be A Little Happy’
The ‘People’s Choice Award’ prize which also consists of time in a New Zealand recording studio and an artist development package, has been awarded to home musician “Frances” for her song ‘Be A Little Happy” after the song was voted ‘Most Popular’ achieving the Most Audience Listens. 2010 OVERALL WINNER May 31, 2010 -- The NZ Online Songwriting Competition - 2010 PEACE SONG (PEACE SONG) is pleased to announce its 2010 winners. It is with great pleasure that PEACE SONG bestows its highest honor, the PEACE SONG Grand Prize, to Ellen Bukstel and Nick Annis of USA for their song “By My Silence”. The compelling and masterfully crafted song has been chosen from amongst hundreds of entries worldwide. The non-genre, values driven songwriting competition developed a bespoke judging system to measure songs for their ability to inspire, encourage and empower audiences to a greater awareness of human rights. The Grand Prize winner receives $10,000 in prizes aimed at developing the artist towards a professional career in music.
