Ziln congratulates Laugh TV

Ziln Ltd Press Release 01/06/2010 – 'The Project' New Zealand Web Sitcom on Ziln www.ziln.co.nz

Ziln, New Zealand's Internet TV network congratulates Laugh TV for launching New Zealand's first on-line only New

Zealand Web sitcom/mockumentary... 'The Project' by Pigville Productions.

“The Project” is a 9-part Internet mockumentary show. A semi-almost completely-true story about two aspiring writer/actors and their quest to get their television show made.

Guy Pigden and Harley Neville were on the verge of stardom when their TV sitcom was optioned by a major production company. Sensing greatness rapidly approaching them, they asked a camera crew to film their epic mis-adventure as they attempted to get their “brilliantly original” concept from script to screen. This candid documentary footage charts their rise and fail, the high fives and the *facepalms*, it’s the rags to rags story which everyone can relate to.

“For a long time it was only our friends and family who laughed at our misfortune, but now Ziln are giving us the opportunity to be laughed at by the whole of New Zealand and we couldn’t be more grateful.” says Guy Pigden of Pigville Productions. “It's great that 'The Project' has been released on Laugh TV so my parents can finally see why I currently have to live with them and why Harley lives outside my house in a van. It’s a special moment for us both.”

Says Laugh TV Managing Director, TM Bishop... “New Zealand has a reputation as being home to some of the best comedy talent in the world. Laugh TV has been established to provide a platform for that comedy to be showcased both nationally and internationally. We are thrilled to have 'The Project' lead the way in being the first of many new quality New Zealand comedies to come on Laugh TV.”

Laugh TV has been on Ziln for nearly two months and is already Ziln's best rating TV channel with up to two thousand video views per day and growing. The channel features the series Black Books, Father Ted, Sleep Talking Wisdom and more. “We are delighted to have “The Project' on Laugh TV through the Ziln TV network... this is what Ziln is all about, providing a platform for talented Kiwis to screen their material to an ever growing on-line TV audience, bypassing the traditional broadcast channels completely ” says Paul Brennan Director of Broadcasting at www.ziln.co.nz

“New Zealand comedy has its own unique flavour”, says TM Bishop, “And Guy Pigden and Harley Neville have shown a perfect example of that with The Project. My only concern is that it should come with the warning not to watch while eating lunch – I laughed so hard I almost choked on my egg sandwich”.

It’s great to be part of the digital movement here in New Zealand, I think this is the tip of the iceberg as more and more up and coming comedians and filmmakers have the chance to showcase their material and grow their audience online through sites like Ziln. Hopefully our show will help New Zealanders realise that the Internet is not just for pornography, but can offer them other forms of entertainment too.” says Harley Neville of 'The Project'.

“This has got me wondering how many other NZ TV series or programmes exist out there that up till now have been denied an audience based on a narrow definition of what works in a strictly commercial real time broadcast medium... those days are over.” says Paul Brennan of Ziln.
