How To Break Into The Film Industry

The Mystery Of How To Break Into The Film Industry Is Over

A panel discussion with film and television industry experts is being held at Paramount Theatre to help actors new to the profession understand how to break in. And for those who are already in how to create more opportunities, build a profile and a sustainable career.

The business of acting goes largely untutored and most actors squander their talent waiting for the phone to ring. Barbara Woods from The Wellington Actors Studio says, “If you want to be an actor, you have to be a producer – in some capacity”

The panellists will include Award Winning actor, Cohen Holloway who was recently seen in the NZ movie sensation, “Boy”. He also starred as David Doherty "Until Proven Innocent", for which he won best actor Qantas Film and Television award in 2009 and again in Taika Waititi’s debut film, “Eagle vs. Shark”.

Casting director, Tina Cleary, who has cast award-winning short films including “Fog”, “Run” and “Six Dollar Fifty Man” and “Crossing the Line” for director Peter Jackson. Recent projects have included an award winning TV drama “Until Proven Innocent”, and the NZ box office hit “Second Hand Wedding”, she co-cast “Home by Christmas” for director Gaylene Preston and notably “Boy” for Taika Waititi.

Actors agent, Shona McCullagh from The Human Agency, now represents the most diverse range of talent in the country. She is also well known in NZ as a highly accomplished dancer, choreographer, director and filmmaker, having choreographed for Peter Jackson, Andrew Adamson, Colin McColl, Lucy Lawless, Naomi Watts, Jamie Bell, Sean Astin and Kevin Smith.
