Art curators invited to apply for tour of South Korea and China

New Zealand contemporary art curators are invited to apply for a tour of leading art museums and galleries in South Korea and China, beginning in October.

The opportunity for three curators is being offered by the Asia New Zealand Foundation and Creative NZ and will take place around October 17 to November 5.

The tour is designed to assist the successful applicants to build professional networks and explore possible future collaborations and artist exchanges.

The tour is being organised to coincide with the 8th Gwangju Biennal and the Busan Biennale in South Korea and the 8th Shanghai Biennial in China.

“This is the first time this programme has been offered. It is an exciting opportunity for a group of New Zealand art professionals to gain exposure to the contemporary art scene in China and South Korea,” said Asia:NZ culture director Jennifer King.

“China can seem quite overwhelming from a New Zealand perspective and this gives people a chance to take it in a manageable bite and learn a lot in a short space of time.”

Participating curators will have the opportunity to give a short presentation on their institution and its perspective on contemporary New Zealand/Pacific art at one or more of the arts institutions to be visited. They will also be expected to share information about the trip on their return to New Zealand.

The three selected curators will receive a grant of up to NZ$7000 towards airfares, accommodation, per diems and ground transport. Those selected may need to contribute a modest additional amount to cover all costs.

Applications need to be received by 5pm on Friday, July 23.
